being insured with the nfip checklist

Get Ready by Getting S.E.T.

Peace of mind is something we’re all looking for, and as an insurance agent it’s the most important thing you provide to your clients. In addition to having a flood insurance policy, your clients can take these three simple steps to help mitigate losses.

Get S.E.T.

Getting S.E.T. isn’t just an acronym, it’s a practice for people who are ready for the unexpected. It’s an easy to remember checklist your clients can follow today, that’ll help them prepare for whatever tomorrow brings.

    S – Store important documents

The last thing people want to realize, after a storm, is that they don’t have critical documents. Tell your clients to use some free time to save copies of their birth certificates and passports, medical records and, of course, their insurance papers in a dry and safe space. You can also recommend they save their original documents in a watertight safety deposit box. This ensures that after a storm, they know their documents are safe and easy to locate.

E – Elevate and anchor utilities

It is important that your clients elevate and anchor their utilities, including electrical panels, propane tanks, sockets, wiring, appliances and heating systems. Doing so is an extra precaution to help ensure minimal damage to your clients’ homes.

    T – Toss out debris

Make sure your clients clear any debris from their gutters and downspouts to avoid water overflowing. Any accumulation of water, in a storm, is an unwanted buildup.
